From Caves to Comics: The Tough Guy in Cartoon

GCSE session with exploring the theme of the strong man and using paint to create volume.

This activity session will be run by artist John Kindness for young people and is particularly aimed at students studying GCSE Art. John will work with the group to explore images of the Tough Guy using Dudley Watkins' Desperate Dan comic strip images to create large cartoons on the theme of the strong man and learn how to use paint to create volume.

The Foundling Museum contains the nationally important art collection of the Foundling Hospital, London’s first home for abandoned children and Britain’s first public art gallery which lead to the founding of the Royal Academy. The collection includes works by Hogarth, Gainsborough and Reynolds, in its original Rococo and Georgian setting; a contemporary social history gallery telling the story of the foundling children; and a collection of Handel memorabilia, including his will and conducting score of Messiah.
