ILLUMINATING HANDEL: Bassoon and recorder players

An exciting new series of free music workshops for orchestral students

This programme is part of the Foundling Museum’s 2009 celebrations of the 250th anniversary of Handel’s death and is in partnership with the world renowned Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE).

Andrew Watts, principal bassoon player for the OAE will illuminate the work of Handel with an instrument of the period. This workshop also includes a visit to the museum's Gerald Coke library to see original manuscripts.

The Foundling Museum contains the nationally important art collection of the Foundling Hospital, London’s first home for abandoned children and Britain’s first public art gallery which lead to the founding of the Royal Academy. The collection includes works by Hogarth, Gainsborough and Reynolds, in its original Rococo and Georgian setting; a contemporary social history gallery telling the story of the foundling children; and a collection of Handel memorabilia, including his will and conducting score of Messiah.
