Project Y
National Youth Dance Company of Scotland
Project Y has been running since 2006 and is a unique opportunity for young dancers to develop their skills and experience with a view to progressing to professional dance training. YDance is a registered charity aiming to nurture and develop young people’s skills through dance and encourage all participants to take part in other classes out with the company.
There are 2 Project Y options for young dancers to consider:
PERFORMANCE COURSE
The Performance Course is for aspiring young dancers aged 16 to 21 who want a taste of what it’s like to be part of a professional dance company. You get to work with 3 top choreographers from the UK and abroad to create an exciting new programme of dance pieces. As a company you then head out on tour to perform at a number of Scottish venues - we’ve previously been to The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (Glasgow), the Lemon Tree (Aberdeen), Eden Court (Inverness) and Carnegie Hall (Dunfermline).
FOUNDATION COURSE
The Foundation Course is for aspiring young dancers aged 12 to 18 who want to improve their dance technique and get a taste of the Performance Course. This course includes a daily Contemporary dance class and choreography workshops led by our YDance specialists. You will also be involved in creating an inspiring new dance work and get the chance to perform it at one of the 2012 Project Y performances.
We are running free taster sessions at some venues around Scotland that are open to all young dancers ages 12 - 21, find out where.
The deadline for applications is 5pm Friday 2 March.
